While addiction is theoretically possible with certain classes of drugs, the risk is extremely low for pets because they do not self-administer their medication. If you have concerns about how your pet is responding to a prescribed medication, please contact us. We are here to address any issues and adjust their treatment plan if needed.
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for the next scheduled dose, simply skip the missed one and return to their regular routine. Never give your pet a double dose.
Many pets will take pills easily when hidden in a favorite food or treat, such as cheese, peanut butter, or a commercial pill pocket. If you need to administer the pill directly, you can gently open your pet’s mouth, place the pill at the back of their tongue, close their jaws, and softly rub their throat to encourage swallowing. Always reward them with a treat and praise afterward for a positive experience. If your pet is reluctant or you are unsure, please contact us for additional tips or alternatives.
